Q:  “My boyfriend, ‘Doug,’ was recently promoted, but he’s having a lot of problems. He is now supervising his former boss, who is unhappy about being demoted. On top of that, the assistant manager applied for the job and resents the fact that Doug was selected. Their negative attitudes have spread to other employees, who are becoming insubordinate. Doug is expected to clean up this department, which is a complete mess. However, he has no management experience, and these toxic people seem to feel they can run all over him. He is feeling really stressed out. Do you have any advice?”

Are you thinking big enough?

Admins, help solve the Case of the Spoiled Wreath

We are located in Florida and every year the corporate office in Louisville sends us what was once a beautiful wreath with fresh fruit, nuts and berries. Tax reform legislation: House would spare 401(k)s, axe other benefits

The House Committee on Ways and Means has released legislative text for tax reform—H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. If enacted, it would substantially change the fringe benefits you offer to employees. The bill retains tax-favored status for employee 401(k) plan contributions, but changes the tax status of other benefits.

Shake off a negative mindset

If you’re often consumed by negativity at work, it’s easy to blame the boss, co-workers or the organization for your feelings. However, it’s possible that your own mindset and emotions are actually causing your misery.

Work with your manager’s style

If you find it hard to stay motivated at work and you’re looking for new inspiration, you might try looking at your supervisor. If you can figure out how to work with your boss’ style, you might find a boost of productivity.
