Only 3% of American office workers don’t care what their co-workers wear to work each day, according to a survey by Adecco. Everyone else is prepared to think less of people who commit office fashion faux pas.
“Profersonalism is about letting go of the idea that we can put our lives into neat little boxes. It’s about categorizing activities instead of people,” says Jason Seiden, CEO of Ajax Social Media. What does that mean in the context of an administrative professional’s career?
“What do you do?” Be prepared for this question before you head to any networking event because you’ll likely be asked dozens of times. Try to answer within 30 seconds, including the reason why people should care about your work.
You’re intelligent. You’re competent. You get the job done. But is anyone noticing your great qualities and skills? The quickest way to make sure they do is to speak up and share your ideas and opinions.
Record-keeping policies and privacy laws may force some duplication of effort, but you can propose more efficient ways to store documents after reviewing your files with these goals in mind.
